An Introduction to Equine Sports

Equine sports have various disciplines and events. This is a kind of introduction for those who are interested and even those who have been into it but do not know detai ls of certain events. For the new comers, kit insurance is very necessary before taking up anything in this field. The popular ones include but not limited to combined training, dressage, driving, endurance, hunter/jumper, polo, racing, rodeo, and western. A few will be briefly explained. Historians believe that dressage was developed to prepare war horses for battle using tactical movements and training that come in handy during difficult battle field situations. One of the activities that thrill enthusiasts is the understanding in form of a two-way communication that is visible between the horse and its rider.
Driving is one of the most competitive equine sports and it is made of three different stages. The stages are dressage, marathon and cone. A whip (horse driver) requires specific abilities to go through these three stages. Western riding is believed to have started in the 17th century with most of its early equipment founded by the Spanish. It included aspects such as reining, cutting, working cow horse, western pleasure and halter. Western pleasure was born out of the need for people to show off the smooth and pleasure riding aspect of horse riding. It is also to emphasize how well trained a horse is. Rodeo activities include timed events, roping and rough stock competition. Timed event comprise of barrel racing, pole bending, steer wrestling and goat tying. Roping consists of calf roping, breakaway roping and team roping. There are so many more aspects of Equine sports that are worth discovering.
